This was a Garret f up in the early 2000s- Savage wanted to come to USC. We didn't hire him, UCLA did and we have been in their shadow ever since. Scholie limit hurts, but Stanford and Vandy in same boat with higher academic rankings and they do just fine...coaching matters. would love a do over here.
Tuition. BB Coach can Only can give 11 1/2 scholies. Hard to make up the difference at $80k/year vs a state subsidized school like ucla uci ucsb or csuf at $20k
ps there is a BB board and I’ve seen you use it alot coach.
@August West see my comments above about Gillespie. I largely agree that with the right coach USC can be relevant and competitive in baseball but the new coach has to be a good judge of talent. Gillespie was.
@thesquat I remember when the scholarship limitation came in for all sports. And I don’t doubt JD Morgan was a leader but the limitations were coming even if JD Morgan was not around. Just look at the Bush case to see how every single power five school including every school in the Pac was in favor of the severe sanctions we got. Every Pac school supported the sanctions even thou it was going to badly hurt the conference in both prestige and money. Morgan was a
@thesquat Coolio gets it. You are the board retard and don't get it.

@Waldorf Wally great question. Does the scholarship limit effect USC? Yes it does. However, the scholarship limitations started in 1978
. Gillespie became USC’s head baseball coach in the early 80’s when Dedeaux retired. In the next 20 years USC win 7 conference titles, went to the World Series 3 times , won the title in 98 and was runner up in 95. With the right coach USC can be very good but you need the right coach and a coach who is good at judging talent. The reason the scholarship limit hurts USC more than say Stanford or Vanderbilt is two reasons: USC has far more students and a smaller endowment so USC can’t put out financial aid Packages outside of the athletic scholarship portion that those two schools can. FYI
@BobLinMN-2 And some of their gals on swimming scholies were great at softball, which begs the question, why waste a scholarship if the gal doesn't even attend classes?
How about the Santa Barbara coach? Wonder if we could pry him? I have mostly given up on USC baseball
Can we get the Auburn guy??? 😎
Bohn is out looking for the Lincoln Riley of college baseball. go get 'em
Mike!
