USC lost a lot of bodies. I use that term for a reason. Not sure how many beyond the obvious were going to contribute. I regret seeing the kid head to Miami, Slovis, Dart tregg. Beyond that? Not so much. I understand the QB's are products of the "one of me and I want to be the man, transfer portal here I caome" mentality.
IMO is appears between returning talent, transfer and recruiting, USC has some good talent at all skill positions. No QB depth, but some RB and WR. OL has 4-5 decent guys and nothing else behind them. And I think most of them have one year left. So they better find someone quick. And a lot of them.
DB-see comments on WR and skill positions. LB looks like a mess but appears they return 1-2 guys and have recruited a few more. Again. Depth. DL-same story.
I agree with the guys above and see it this way. USC had a horrible talent and depth situation before. They basically lost half a first string and half a second string. They recruited a better first string. That means they still have depth issues but are way better off than they were. They aren't done. From the coming and going I have seen, they lost about 35 guys total and have recruited or transferred in a total of about 20-21. So they have a lot of openings after spring practice to offer.
If they are going to play with 70 players this year then they will likely be able to go recruit another 30 or so next year. I imagine a full year's work on recruiting will net USC some quality HS help.
As San Clemente and I have said awhile now, I am not sure if this is even something for the future that a top program should do. The wave may be to field a good team Be a big brand. And steal top players from schools like ASU, UCLA, Oregon who get or develop top talent. Make it be known USC has a need at a certain position and just go steal the best kid available. Tap into the B Wayne Hughes trust fund and give the kid an NIL deal. Considering all the moving around with the transfer portal and moving campuses, a NIL deal with PS storage seems like a natural tie in. Look for that to be Caleb's next one hahahaha
@Java we have a serious depth issue on the OL. I agree there is some talent, but as you know, there’s always attrition in that corp. There’s 2-3 losses due to the OL alone.
What would Mike Rae say? He stuck it out until his senior year when he led USC to a NC. Anthony Davis was fifth on the depth chart behind guys like Rod McNeil. Had the Heiman vote waited until after the season, he would have won the Heisman.
@Onikoroshi good post, the secondary lost every starter. we have recruited the hell out of the position but we will be looking for a new starting group.
@BigBallss what about Bullock and had Pao mao gone pro yet......seems to me there are a numnber of others that got a lot of playing time as well ijn the defensive backfield...and as far as the DL goes the only area I have concern is for a big man that can pug the middle...Figeroa returns along with Tuliosopopo (sp), Foreman will get a shot and you have the transfer on the edge as well. to start with...and Riley is still recruiting....most of the issues on the roster have to do with depth except at DB and now WR.....IMHO
Name a team that doesn't have a depth problem at quarterback and with their oline.
They all do. It's been that way since the 1980's.
Talent is spread thin in the NCAA, not deep.
The transfer portal will make this even worse.
Don't say last year's Oklahoma team,
because once CW started, it was obvious they had a depth problem at quarterback. Same with Georgia, Bama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Cincy, MI, and Pitt.
Bama's oline was a sieve on the right side after they lost a starter,
same with Georgia's dline, etc., etc.

wrong
interior oline of Neilon, Dedich, and Vorhees, is solid,
left tackle will be very good
right tackle is a question mark,
but not a big one, just who will start
DL, we'll see what the transfers bring,
but Korey should make at least second team all PAC this year
Caleb will be running for touchdowns
at least 12 next year
What about the secondary do you find encouraging?
