Watched the condensed version of SC-Auburn from 2002. I was there but today is the first time I’ve ever seen it on TV. It was Keith Jackson and Dan Fouts on ABC, 2 hours long.
What I remembered about the game was that SC totally shut down Auburn in the second half— under 50 yards of offense after Auburn had 250 in the first. That was my second “wow” game of the Carroll era. What I didn’t recall was that it was still a tie game with under 2minutes to play. The winning drive started at midfield and took almost 9 minutes. Also, 2002 was before the officiating crews got buff. The zebras looked like a bunch of guys at their 40th high school reunion just back from the shakes and burgers bar. Lots of penalties but they were all pretty obvious.
During commercials I flipped to another Pac channel and saw the 87 Rose Bowl with Michigan and ASU. I immediately noticed Michigan’s colors were still maize and blue, not the sunshine yellow they’ve been wearing since they let Nike and Adidas control their school colors. The maize was unique and, to me, pretty cool. I recall reading that after one switch between The two vendors Michigan wanted to go back to its original maize but found out the apparel company owned the color and refused to sell it. Must have been the same negotiating team who handled the Griner swap.

Someone will own "Sex", and we'll all have to pay a permit fee each time.
I was at that game too. Hot AF. Sat next to Scott Ross, RIP. Memories that stand out:
1) Visiting The tree that later got poisoned by a a Bama douche
2) the announcer before kickoff that instructed the crowd to chant some booshet or another ( don’t recall) after every touchdown and then they never scored, lmao
3) The horrible traffic jam leaving town after the game. Made leaving the Rose Bowl a walk in the park. 4) Pulling over to grab a bite to eat ( and kill time waiting for traffic to lighten) and walking into a packed place wearing USC gear. I swear the place went instantly quiet. Awkward.
5) The raucous crowd pregame vs how subdued they were post game. 6) Pete saying post game , “ We will come down to the S-E-C anytime!”. 7) The rally in Atlanta.
EDIT: oh snap, you talking about the game at the Coli. Sorry. I was there too, but I’m not erasing the other good memories. About the game at the Coli: 1) Also hot AF
2) Auburn fans yelling SEC! SEC! At the entrance to the Coli, Gate 24.
3) They packed the West End where we used to put the visitors. They were loud too. 4) In the 4th quarter, Thinking Carson was going to fuck up that game too by throwing a pick or fumbling a snap. I had zero confidence in Carson at that point. 5) Good win.
never have seen that game. I was in canada fishing for northern pike.
I'll have to check it out.
How the fuck can you "own" a color, esp. in light of the school history Mich has with that shade. Man, our system of commerce is totally fucked up.
