No it was smart the USC coach recognized it as a tip and a PI not a defensive hold. And he knew where they were in the half and that it was a great spot to use it. In the end he used all 3 TO and it allowed him to get the FG at the end

As i said, smart. USC Coach Riley just created a turnover for USC. If the refs had called defensive holding as they should have he could not have challenged it. Because it was PID and the deflection happened, he did. And did it instantly. That is a smart smart boy coaching that team
