They then cooked the books in a way that made Enron look honest, collected $20-25 million performance bonuses based on what the books showed, and when the books were shown to be fraudulent, gave back 5-10% of the bonuses and kept the rest.

And yes, if you lie to an auditor and "manage" them using deception it's a great way to fool people whose job it is to make the numbers add up. It's also a great way to go to prison.

Who do you think conducts audits? News for you. Lawyers knowledge of numbers is horrifically pathetic. I have been shocked at how ignorant they are. Just basic math and they obviously skirt the topic. Most of the time if a lawyer is alerted, it's because someone in the accounting department found something that didn't add up. That's why Comcast instituted a legal investigation. It was a legal investigation because it may precipitate criminal filings or a tort case. So the financial people found it. The legal investigation assured it was done in a way that would substantiate Comcast's case and I guarantee the law firm had auditors or other CPA's do it. All the while the PAC is left looking dumber than ever. Even dumber than you.

Auditors are like Columbo. People like to them and think they are stupid and sloppily dressed. And they just slowly keep coming and asking questions. And at some point when things don't add up? The answers they give hang themselves. Looks like this is what happened and the controller (who all the financial people worked for) AND the CEO of the PAC-12 networks both wound up exposed as criminal frauds. All thanks to a dogged accountant who caught them originally and traced it back to them beginning their lying around 2017.

BTW I don't believe for a minute that they didn't benefit financially Guarantee you they got bonuses bases on performance and this enabled that.

I've met Auditors from Ernst Young, several ISO Companies, Customer auditors from GM, Ford, Intel, Sarbanes-Oxley, Air Force, Navy, to name a few...and out of those I will say again..90% were either incompetent or managed by the managers they dealt with. Never had to do that myself because the various Organizations I worked for followed the regulations we were contracted with in commercial and military product development and production. I witnessed the biggest issues, in Finance, Quality and Engineering.

Guess the PAC got one Auditor that actually did their job....so how come it took 5-6 years for this to get exposed when Comcast kept paying after it was discovered? Seem like the whole PAC was corrupt and the question now is who is going to pay? Timing is interesting with USC and UCLA only having one more year left in the PAC.
