Kupp best man - it took Rice a career to do what Kupp did this year.. 1. Triple crown of WR.... 2. Won Offensive Player of Year NFL 3. MVP Superbowl
Kupp was biggest reason the Rams won.. Rice was a stud for his entire career but sheeeet. Kupp was more dominate and had far more yards after catch than Rice.
That's beciase the league has turned into a pass happy 7 on 7 contest....and when was the last time you heard of defensive players trying to tear a guys eyes out under a pile or a bounty put on a player....leagues far past that...they have turned the league into flag football almost...when a player gets too vicious he's fined or suspended..the property on the field is too important for entertainment and money to allow them to play the way the game was created..
Jerry Rice....by a long shot...different time and different league but Rice owned the wide receiver position...it maybe a faster league now but it was a tougher league then...
@DayStalker tougher....tel me a one and one corner that was better then Deon.. Tell me a better defensive DT then Randy White...tell me the game wasn't tougher when they let them play and didn't act like it was 7 on 7. Tell me when they let them hit and it wasn't a penalty for hitting a player or a QB....tell me when a QB gets treated like he's a barbie and only certain parts of his body can be touched by a defensive player....tell me when a corne couldn't smack around a reciever when he tried to get off the line of scrimmage...the NFL is a weak ass excuse to what it was....and less athletic...tell me was Jim Brown not athletic, was Barry sanders less athletic? Sorry the times changes but this is a league made for 7 vs 7 and anyone that tries to kill someone is either suspended or banned for life....ever hear the story of Ronnie Lott and his finger? Tell me players today play that way?
@OldHickoryTrojan I get you on those individuals, but those guys stood out because they were above and beyond their peers. To a man there is more talent on the field today, IMO.
@OldHickoryTrojan Deon is the best cover CB ever, that's well established. Aaron Donald is better than Randy White was. Did you mean Reggie White? I'd put Donald on that level with Reggie, he's that dominant
It is impossible to really nail down a definitive answer. If you were to switch Rice and Kupp would they have flourished as they each did? The game was different for both, two different QB's and a huge change in game speed. DB's they were up against were much different as well. Too many variables in the things outside of their control that make the answer to this question unobtainium.
Kupp had the best WR season maybe ever. Over 2400 yards, regular season and playoffs combined. He beat the previous record by 500 yards. Playing one extra regular season and all four potential playoff games helps, but he obliterated Larry Fitzgard's 1900 combined yards. I don't think he's as good as Rice, but Kupp certainly projects a HOF career.
