Sonny Corleone was a fullback and a punter.

It was recently learned that he survived all that machine-gun fire on the causeway on Long Island back in the late 1940s. Upon his recovery, he was said to be disappointed he never got his high school diploma, having dropped out his freshman year to become a Mafia kingpin. So, apparently he moved to Las Vegas to start over, working at a casino with his brother Fredo.

In Vegas, he attended Las Vegas High School and played football. He had to get a dispensation to play prep sports because he was about 38 years-old, but his family had connections with U.S. Senator Patrick Geary of Nevada, so it wasn't much of a problem.

He even played a few road games in Southern California and also played in the Shrine Game at the Coliseum. Who knew, right?

Then he signed with the Chicago Bears after that.....he had a great rookie season. Became good buddies with Gale Sayers.

Masked Man, I think we forgot to mention that he also played in an alternative league once his NFL days were over, but I hear injuries forced his retirement rather quickly.

I think that was just after he served his country in the military. Always looked good in a helmet. Here is a picture of him dragging a wounded Lendak into a fox hole to save his life. Lendak later went on to stardom at USC.

Sorry, that isn't Sonny. Maybe it's a distant cousin. See, Sonny never served in the military. He thought all the guys who joined were saps. Why? Because he felt that your country isnt your family, it isn't your blood. That's why he got so pissed off at his little brother Mike, who blew off a deferment and an Ivy League education to join the Marines. But his other brother Fredo was pretty impressed that Mike signed up.
