School teams do the same for their faculty alumni and students. For community teams like Nebraska or Fresno it extends to their towns. Rah rah

in this case and others you have people who aren’t students. Aren’t alumni aren’t faculty insulting and disparaging the university but picking one small element they like and “identifying” w it. Basking in the glory of a win. Trashing them in a loss. Conveniently picking what they like like at vons.

like the military guys on a collegiate level some of us have earned our degrees. Our stripes. Have earned the right to be called Trojans. Have laid our tuition. And some people think watching them on tv or owning a t shirt puts them on equal ground. You can do anything you want and watch or root for anyone you want. But if you think you’re gonna come here on equal ground? Just not going to happen. Don’t have the cred. Stolen valor my friend.

you earned your ucla stripes. Through tuition. Studies. Heartbreaks. Money. Etc. Your loyalty to your school is what makes college sports superior imo. The long traditions and lineage. Me too. I get that.

I have no problem with a non-graduate being a die-hard UCLA fan. I don't even have a problem with them referring to UCLA as "we." But I don't think I'm somehow on higher ground than said person just because I'm a graduate. Some of the most die-hard UCLA fans I know never went to UCLA. They either could not get in, or there was another university that was a better fit in terms of their field of study. But many of them have been UCLA fans since they were children.

However, if someone clearly disrespects UCLA but still cheers for the basketball team or the football team for some reason, then that person is an idiot. Fortunately I do not know anybody like that.

Dunno. I earned my stripes as a usc fan. Paid a lot of tuition. Went there a lot of years. Worked hard for my degree. Season tickets for decades times 4-5. Athletic group lifetime member.

Never ashamed of being a Sun Devil. Never once called myself a trojan. So, you can say "faux trojan" all you want. It's not an insult to me.
