What is the reaction, if any, to the new policy effectively abolishing tailgating at USC football games?
The state now forbids it while parking on/in any of their lots. You can enter a lottery to win the "right" to tailgate, but these spots are rationed.
Am I the only one concerned by this?
What is to keep anyone from tailgating/picnicing on campus? Worst case....12-pack, deli sandwiches? Tailgate on campus parking garages?
true about the car thing.
it's like having a bicycle as a student. almost all kids get at least one stolen and MOST get two stolen while attending per some article in the daily trojan years ago. doubt it's any better now.
even in the structures ON campus my car has been broken into twice over the decades. including an old high school football jersey that is simply not replaceable. fawking animals.
not a tailgate person myself. I actually want to watch the game sober. although I am sure iq66's wife made a grate 7 layer bean dip before he went against my advice and got on a death cruise ship with her last year. maybe he had her insured?
anyone that doesn't think this whole thing isn't isn't about money probably also believes "student athletes" are real college students. sc
Tailgaiting has never really been great at sc anyways. The band doing that cadence thing is the only real highlight. Plenty of parking structures but it's as bad as getting out of the rose bowl when the game is over. Forget parking anywhere off campus unless you want to come back to your car sitting on blocks.
Good idea for sc to begin charging to tailgate. Will keep some of the riff raff out that like to get blottoed before kickoff and barely make it to their seat. Hopefully they'll be serving decent beer and not charging $25 for a budweiser.
I prefer away games though. Far better tailgating at other schools

ATL tailgating on USC Campus is very cool. PLenty of grass to pitch a tent (so to speak) and then the band comes marching through. Its great. Most of time the parking structure is exact that. where you park and that’s it.
You think UCLA would like to tailgate on campus vs renting a stadium 40
miles away???
Should we explain to ATL the product inside the stadium is considered part of the experience??
PS getting into the RB is easy. Getting out is the Escape from Alcatraz. But If it’s a RB victory for USC it’s all worth it.
Thank you for your response. I have not read Bohn's email. I was referring to an email from another member of the Athletic Dept on this topic.
Are you saying there will be 100 lottery tailgating passes awarded? That is few, given the number of fans who I have seen tailgate. It is a big deal to us as our lot no longer allows any tailgating of any kind, yet it is the lot that has the easiest access to the 110 north after the games.
What are your plans, assuming you tailgate?
I just read Bohns email. First of all glass half empty dopes will always find something to bitch about. Campus policy hasn't changed all that much, but the permits for a 100 person tailgate is $45.00. Beer and wine is for sale now in the coliseum and alumni park.

Whatever, if you can't afford a few hundred bucks to tailgate, well then don't. Go to McDonalds and get a happy meal before the game, and go into the stadium and buy a bunch of beers inside. Its not like any Trojans can't afford that, right?
Go to the Rose Bowl for a UCLA game. Best tailgating atmosphere in the country.
does this really surprise you?
If you went to USC you KNOW that MONEY is the GOD of troy.
like it or not, it's who we are.
If you really had a problem with it, you should have gone somewhere else.
So, like everything else. follow the money.
Now WHY would USC not want people getting liquored up before they walked into the stadium.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
why, oh why would USC not want that.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
