TEE or LA DUCK.....Lanning's 4th Down Choices?

What is the UO media/Duck Nation saying about the choices Dan Lanning made that might have cost the Ducks the UW game? Choices reminiscent of Chip Kelly days......but Chip usually made it on 4th Down....instead of punting or kicking.

I hope Lanning contiues to be aggressive. It will result in more Duck losses. It is not agressive when you have poor scheme and worse execution. It is desperation and shows no faith in defense.

Many (myself included) don't have a prob with his aggressive nature in going for it on 4th down. I think it was the play calling that we had a bigger issue with on those downs. (That could be said to be more on Stein than on Lanning though.)

I'd rather have a coach like Big Balls Chip than a coach who wants to play not to lose rather than to win. I think I would have kicked the FG to end the 1st half. But you're at Washington against arguably the best QB/WRs in the nation, you have to go for the TD in that situation I think.

Bellotti was one of the most conservative coaches we've had. We lost a fair number of games playing not to lose in his time. After living through that, I'd rather lose missing on 4th downs than milking the clock, playing prevent D or settling for FGs against great offensive teams.

Imagine that...a reasonable response that is my position too. There are times when you don't get many opportunities to be insiide the opponent's 5 yard line so you feel compelled to go for it. Even though it wouldn't have given you the lead,, going in at halftime down by 1 or down by 4 is a difference, especially when you receive the 2nd half kickoff. I would have questioned UW's coaching decision if they made that choice.

But another UW 4th down situation was a different situation: With less than 3 minutes left in the 3rd qtr, UW went for on 4th down inside the 3 yard line to potentially go ahead by 3 scores but didn't make it, the only 4th down conversion missed. It was the right decsion. But I can still question the play call/personell grouping.

Lannings taking a beating on the decisions by the Oregon media and fanbase. Most chalk it up to being young , inexperienced. Some not. Bottom line though, he's not on the chopping block. Ducks aren't going to start all over with a new coach and lose this class and possibly transfers.

The expectations will be a lot less in the big ten. Don't think anyone believes the Ducks will be winning the big ten.

Lanning's job is safe. UO is better than Udub, but his decisions cost you guys the game.

Kicking is not necessarily playing not to lose; sometimes it's the smart move. He should have kicked his 2 fgs. Going for it on 4th down was more understandable, but not on your own 40. But LAD is probably correct there; Penix probably drives the field anyway after a punt and UO probably has little time left to respond. But he still should have taken the fgs.
