Who said that a gamble for turnovers isn't something defenses can count on in the long run. And that if it did, all defenses would do that. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I was the ONLY trojan fan I can remember not doing backflips over the CLR hire. I don't get emotional about these things. Just as Pitt warned us about Paul Hackett, serious Oklahoma fans warned us that CLR doesn't care about defense and is tied to the hip to a disaster named Grinch. Didn't know CLR doesn't give a shit about special teams either. He's a quarterback guru and offensive coordinator not a head coach. The scary thing was when I added up the score his teams gave up in his three biggest games as head coach. 162
The season ride was fun. It became obvious after a few games that this team would succeed as long as it's generational quarterback was able to stay upright. When he got injured in the CCG the ride ended. But going from 4 and 8 to the CCG was a hell of a ride. It was ALL CALEB WILLIAMS . He had to overcome not only the defense he faced , but his own team's defense and his own team's special teams. What Heisman winner has ever had to do that?
I was told by geniuses on this board that defense didn't matter anymore. It's 2022, 1975. I was told it was fine to give up 40-50 points a game cause SC would just put up 50-60. I was told by the geniuses on this board that the Grinch just needed his guys to run his defense that could hold teams to 40 with his guys, and with that championships would pile up. When I pointed out that he didn't do that with "HIS" talent at Oklahoma, I was called a hater.
So where are we going into next season? Offense is world class. Defense is as embarrassing as some combo of OJ, Sark, and the med school Dean. If Johnny Carson or Jay Leno were still doing the tonight show, they would have bits on SC's defense. I was told on this board that the one think you can't do is EMBARRASS USC. I posted on this board that high school coaches were warning their top kids away from The Grinch, who couldn't be bothered to even try to recruit "his players". CLR is a relentless recruiter, but only for offense. Defense? To date, can't be bothered with that stuff. There are a few kids coming in that can play, but SC is losing a couple that can play. So back to square one.
OR.
And as I posted and it might take the AD getting involved and sitting down CLR, but cleaning house on the D side of the ball. Maybe salvage something with the late portal signing period after spring practice with a whole new defensive coaching staff. During the annual coaching shuffle Bohn needs to find and hire the best defensive coordinator money can buy , let that coach put together his staff and field a defense that won't embarrass the University. Oh, Lincoln. you have to hire a special teams coach too.
Seems simple and obvious . CLR can play with his toy. A REAL grownup coach can run his defense. As pointed out here in 2022 Offense is king. But if you actually want to win something. Defense can't be an embarrassment.
AS I have often pointed out. NO , I do not demand SC wins every game. Never have. But the Standard at SC is to either be competing for a championship or building toward one. Make the necessary changes and this last season can still be building toward a run next season. Tulane went from 2 and 10 to 11 and 2 and didn't sign a single four star kid.
Do nothing and next season with a tougher schedule will be just like this last one. Score a lot of points. Give up a lot of points. Be fun to watch , win bupkis, and end in embarrassment.
sc
Here you go FWIW. He’s not a bad DC the offense just needed to score 47 pts
I'm not read all of that shit. It doesn't matter. It's nothing original anyways.
