Can CF survive the portal and NIL? We are rapidly descending into a hand full or less college teams dominating football. The havenots will be dumb being the bitch for these guys and should start playing only second tier guys.
The top tier guys will form a new pro league to control the portal and their budget.
The NFL will use them as their "farm teams", and attendance will fall off.
I mentioned something similar to this a while back.
Let those who want to purchase rosters form their own league that can be used a the NFL 'farm teams'. No eligibility requirements except maybe to enroll in any single class just to say they are 'students'.
The rest can form their own organization similar to college football as it was recently, like the NCAA but with rules and enforcement. Bypass anti-trust as it would be a private organizations that schools sign on to. Reasonable and fair stipends regulated evenly.
HS players that select to go to the 'NFL lite' will not be eligible to transfer to the traditional schools if they wash out. They still might have some of the "NFL Lite' money left over to pay for their own education or look for a job on the production line.
Underrated players/those who blow up in the traditional schools that want to transfer to the 'NFL Lite' for the bag, must repay the departed university the cost of tuition, room/board, development and training costs, etc.
Kind of the basics but where would the broadcast money follow? Which casual fans that don't have a vested interest in the 'NFL Lite' teams, want to watch and follow? I am guessing the traditional college football teams.
The second tier can only afford their programs if they serve as sacrificial lambs to those who bring the eyeballs.
Been talking about this a few years.
My theory has been Cfb is headed toward the destruction of the ncaa off the field and all teams and conferences are going to line up under one of two competing organizations. One headed by the big ten and the other headed by the sec.
What will be ironic in this world of carrier less phones and streaming cable is that if you join one organization? You won’t be able to play teams from the other. Tv contracts will be done separately. I think each organization will have multiple levels and for the big ten one you’ll eventually see a champion of the west. Like the old pac. Play the champion of the east. You might even see relegation so teams from the old big west big 12 etc have a chance to move up and down. Bowls will align with the b 10 or the sec format
what will be the difference between the sec and b10? I’m going to guess academics. Money and drugs/steroids
One will be a free for all. Get all the cash you can. Don’t worry about school. You’re a pro here at Alabama and shoot up with whatever works.
The other probably has some salary structure or cap. Minimal academic requirements to put on a show and drug testing
Notre dame will make a big show and be sanctimonious with their piety about reverence toward college football. Their importance to the game me the purity on the sport. Then join whichever one pays them the most money and guarantees them a spot at the championship pigs trough
All I know is that college football is starting to look like Arena Football. That can't be an accident.
