Stopped by on Saturday with my daughter to show her campus, Heritage Hall, bookstore, etc.
What a downer it was. Thanks to the democrats, chain link fences a nd rent a cops everywhere. Had to beg for a visitor’s pass and then get wanded down at one of the few entry gates.
The student body seemed almost completely international. It was crazy. The only upside was that the bookstore was filled with sports apparel as the new student body could care less about it.
While it is great to see the new football center under construction and what appears to be other strong athletic facility investments, I don’t see how sports plays out at SC over time. I didn’t even see one hot chick.
Makes you wonder if football recruits aren’t seeing an attractive campus for them. I could care less what race or color you are, but culturally USC has to be a strange place day to day.
My daughter looked at me afterward and said Dad, I think I will just go to UF Gainesville. Painful.
The students bring the energy, not the campus. Visit during the actual school year, not a week after finals. Also, University Village is where the students hang out these days. It's filled with bars, restauants, work-out facilites and dorms. Wish it was around when I went there.
Did you walk thru 28th Street? Thru University Village? Walk around Coliseum? Burger at the 9-0?
Also suggest you sign up for a 2-3 hourf "Meet USC" presentation for prospective students thru the Admissions Office https://admission.usc.edu/prospective-students/meet-us/information-sessions/ .
Great way to show off USC to prospective students. Offered thru the Admissions Office. Stop by the Admissions Office and register as a prospective student...."get on the list". Find out when USC Recruiting has a presentation in your neighborhood. You picked a terrible time to tour campus...and expect to see something "real life". Insist on a do-over...with your daughter....especially if you can afford USC.
I'm up there about every 3rd week., except for the last month. The campus is normally very polished with tons of energy. In contrast, you went the day after graduation at a time of high alert to keep the Hamas scum at bay.
Ever been on campus sunday morning after a Saturday night game? Fences, awnings, and security measures linger--same with graduation, only more so.
Did you expect it to be the most vibrant a week after finals ended and two weeks after classes ended?
Q: Which students are left after graduation?
A: Grad students and foreign students
So while its fun to find contrasts with the past, you might consider a better sample than a post spring semester day before summer session, with the highest security period ever following graduation when the fences arent down yet.
Try a normal session day with tons of high energy smart kids around. Its impressive.
Right now only Wo-Fat's kid and a few janitors are around.
sounds like you missed stopping by Jullie's (ha!) and the 9-0
Make America White Again!
Yeehaw!!!!!
I certainly respect your opinion, I love the USC campus. I always think of my first day registering for classes as a student all those years ago. I still get adrenaline walking on campus. So many great memories.
Dreams do come true.
My
Kids had the same reaction for different reasons. I was a little first rated they didn’t give usc a better look given all the Saturdays we spent there
