The Georgia coach who won several

NCAA titles with the USC women left because they offered her a boatload of money. USC promoted Quincy Watts to head coach and he did something no USC track coach has done in over 40 years, win an NCAA mens title. He has done a great job and he is a Trojan born an bred. He won a 400 meter title as a Trojan and and Olympic gold in the 400 meters and 1600 meter relay. When he coached at usc, watts came in as a 100/200 meter runner. Bush convinced him his best event was the 400 and he was right. And watts can coach too. To win an indoor or outdoor title you have to win it in the sprints/hurdles/relays.

Which is Watts strong point. We will also contend for the outdoor title.

Yep, USC and its tight wad board did not match her offer from UGA. But, it worked out well for USC. Asst HC, Quincy Wyatts took over and doing a wonderful job. Yep, C. Bush was UCLA track coach. Bush left UCLA and became USC's HC. Again money was the issue.

Centrowitz and Wheating were both Olympians with Centro winning the gold in the 1,500.

Thanxs Coach Mike for sharing that race. Now that's an All Star group for Oregon. I remember the Olympics when Centro won the Gold in the 1500 m. It was very exciting... A Big Shaka.

Bruddah, Coach Mike, yep road work = A+ cardio & cross training for serious tennis players.

During my tournament days, jogged 35 miles per week + swam 2 miles x 2 days per week + did 5 x 60 yds, 5 x 120 yds wind sprints sets, 2 times per week. Plus did various calisthenics + stretching 4 times per week. I crossed trained very hard.

Pretty much out trained my competitors. Some would only jog maybe 5 to 8 miles per week. Maybe some did stretching. Heck, most would only practice tennis during the week. OK they held a full time jobs. Shoot, I held a full time job as well but put in the hours cross training to be in tip top condition... Cheers.

At FSU we'd run around the campus after practice. A long run. Close to the end of it was a six- story building with a stairway accessed from outside. We'd run up and down the six-story flight of stairs multiple and I do mean multiple times. A killer. But we were in shape lol. Oh, to be young again. Keep the T&F results coming.

Coach Fresno Mike, Help me out, back in the 70's, college team tennis match format wasn't it 4 single's and 3 double's = 7 pts? Now it's 6 singles + (the 3 double's) 2/3 wins = 1 pt. 6 + 1 = 7 pts.

NCAA changed things in the 80's right. I like the new format better. More single's and still there's the 3 double's teams. A big Shaka

Update. Found out the old format in the 70's. 6 singles (best of 3 sets) + 3 doubles (1 set only) = 9 pts. Team that wins 5 pts won the team match. But, do not know when it changed to current format = 6 singles pt + 1 doubles pt = 7 pts. Team that wins 4 pts wins the team match.
