Pretty shocking numbers for Colorado, 59 players gone. Then again, we are talking about a
1-11 team. If you can’t change the people , change the people.
USC had to do the same thing to improve a 4-8 squad. Oregon was 10-3 last year. Not a re build. Was Cristobal and the pundits that bad at evaluating and recruiting? Oregon had some highly recruited classes.
So the overarching thought from the quack faithful is that Mario was more of a star chaser than a real evaluator of talent. It may be revisionist theory at work here, but that's pretty much how many of us see it.
Yes, he did strike gold occasionally, but had a ton of misses as well. I'm riding with Dan The Man here and his thoughts on talent. So I'm good with the radical changes.
Think about it, did we miss Travis Dye all that much last year when Dan brought in Bucky Irving (#2 in pac-12) or Noah Whittington (#9) from the portal (not to mention #7 rushing leader Bo Nix - and #2 passing leader only behind Williams)?
Dan has consistently shown he mines gold in the portal, including 3 DL who all started for Oregon in 2022, Chase Cota who was the 2nd best WR for us, plus DB Christian Gonzalez - 3rd CB selected at #17 in NFL draft....
Where were all of Mario's recruits? Don't think we will miss the ones who recently left all that much either..
I turn to one Coach Kirby Smart for the answer you are seeking, told to the press following Oregon's beat-down by Georgia to start the 2022 football season in regards to his former DC, Dan Lanning:
"He's gonna do a really good job at Oregon. He's relentless. They'll bounce back from this, and he knows we have better players. He'll never say that, but he knows we've got better players."
That's all you need to know as to why Dan has turned to the portal so vigorously. And this is AFTER Mario Cristobal's pac-12-leading recruiting classes.... 😮

Stanford has as many portal entries as USC now that’s a surprise.
losing to the beavs the way they did pissed them off.
