Chief of Staff.....how long before the staff gets tired of this idiot and decides to move on? Look at that photo...does he look like an idiot or not? This transfer to Chief of Staff feels like the extra year Riley gave Grinch before he was forced to cut bait....desn't appear he learned anything from that fiasco
Reading the ND message boards, most think this is a big loss and feel ND should have matched
Typical comment on their board:
”I think ND messed this one up. We couldn't match a $1 million salary for one of the biggest power players in the sport and one of the keys to our run to the championship game!?”
can usc trust this guy? I don't want ND having ANYTHING to do with USC. Look at Haden the irish mole. A lot of the blame for this malaise falls on his shoulders. Frankly USC should have looked elsewhere.
That's dumb thinking. Adding a very highly-regarded GM to the SC staff while simultaneously weakening ND is great for SC. But, hey, go ahead and think that the new is a mole for the Irish. Do you know how weak and paranoid that makes you?
Emerick stays anywhere close to this new guy has failure written all over it...almost like Emerick was a DEI hire...nothing he has done has paid any dividends for USC football IMHO...and Riley needs a guy that can handle him to the point of his only job is coaching...
Uh, in pro sports the GM calls the shots and makes major decisions. Most GM's make much less than HC's. I think USC GM will have the same type of authority and C. LR will fall under his command. Hopefully, Bowden and C. LR are able to work together.
I feel and think, C. LR does not have the proper skills running a USC FB program. 2 years of 5 and 6 game losses. I just wish USC finds a way to rid of C. LR and not have to pay his hefty remaining contract. His contract is such a big problem.
As far as Dave Emerick, he loss his posiiton and authority at USC. C. LR can not protect him. Chad Bowden is the GM. Maybe GM Chad Bowden or AD Cohen fires him if Emerick gives Bowden a hard time. If I were Emerick, he had better watch his attitude... Cheers.
USC got him cheap....which raises questions....is he really worth what they are paying him, did USC go cheap, if he is good how long will he stay at that measly amount, what did he do to help ND with their NIL, is he a good judge of talent and does he understand the market..???????
You have disproved nothing....they got him cheap...compare that to what USC offered the GM for Alabama that was turned down and makes over $800k a year and USC offered him more...and as far as being one of the highest paid it sounds like you beleived when it was introduced that NIL wouldn't get out of hand. I predicted at the time that schools like Oregon would own recruiting with NIL and that USC would not compete with that kind of monies at the time as USC preferred to use their cash on buildings and such while schools that are big time football players would get consumed with raising NIL monies. Guess what now folks are realizing USC bit the wrong bullet...still to be confirmed if they have learned something from it....whoever thought OC's and DC's would ever make $2-5M a year....I fully expect a good GM will be making that kind of cash shortly unless of course they have an Uncle Phil....so ya if this guy is as good as many are saying ..they got him cheap ...lets see Texas Tech ( who doesn't even belong in the discussion of bigtime programs is paying their GM $800k a year. Lastly remember these quotes from 2024...
"What's happened in this industry is unprecedented," Blanchard said. "In the next three years you're to see a personnel guy get hired and be the first million-dollar man."
Anyone that understands the current college scenario would understand a good GM is priceless and it appears some schools are ahead of the curve but as the competition grows so will be the importance of a GM. Wait until revenue sharing hits the books...and in case you missed it CFB is now hiring NFL GM's...GM's are becoming the second most important figure to the HC in football and as such will watch their salaries go through the roof .....
Based upon the current situation in CFB with Revenue Sharing around th corner that was cheap if he is as good as claimed. Expect the GM types to be the next boom in the cost of salaries for CFB...has to happen ...just too many changes happening too quickly for a FB Coach to be able to manage it...it's already happening...GM's making $800k a year is growing and the cost of living in LA more than makes up for the guy in BAMA that makes over $825k a year lives on....
No, they didn't. If Marcus and ND wanted to match they could. I suspect ND will have a replacement named in short order. I think the ND recruiting can improve and Bowden leaving may help in that end.
lol, this guy getting a lot of hate.

Part of USCs problem is that they have Dave Emerick. He is the GM. He isn’t getting fired. He is Lincoln Riley’s guy.
So I have no idea whether Dave is cool with this. Whether Dave is leaving later. Whether Lincoln will ignore the e new guy
Without clearing out emerick this really sounds like a mess to me

It is a done deal . CONGRATS . He is GOOD !
OUCH ! .He is GOOD !
