Pet peeve I have always had is that when USC is way ahead or behind they don't bring in their backup to run some plays. Lose some adrenaline. Get out their nerves. Get used to live snaps. Run the offense.
Today USC was up 37-13 with 11 minutes play. Had at least two possessions before it ended. Instead if getting Miller Moss much needed reps they left Slovis in there. This is not a knock against WIlliams. Helton did it. Kiff and Sark did it. Carroll did it. JR did it. USC never gives their backups meaningful development and they leave a starter in there and expose him to risk. I don't get it.
You have 3-4 games to play Moss and can still RS him. If Slovis is hurt you aren't RS him anyway. So play him the 3-4 games. Get him ready. And if the starter gets hurt, you have some confidence in him. Practice reps are not game reps. If you don't need him then redshirt him. Put another way. With Dart playing as he did, if Moss doesn't play, he WILL transfer. Happens all the time. If Moss gets a chance to show what he can do he will stick around for the competition and back up Dart. If the argument is that you want to preserve a year like 5 years from now? He's not going to be around for that one way or the other.
Is this the mentoring of Helton of Harrell or Harrell? Either way USC has been along time Into individual stats....and considering the way Harrell spoke about rotating a ton of receivers and has yet to play the 8-10 a game he spoke if seems to indicate he focus's on individual putting up numbers more then getting a lot of experience and building moral....IMHO
While I wouldn't yank Slovis at 11 mins, I most certainly would at 6 mins assuming Colorado didn't score again. I don't know why it is that none of the coaching staffs have done this, but maybe it just makes too much sense
DC
100% agree with that.
Remember they always kept Kessler in knowing Max Browne was facing Bama
in the opener for next season.
Made zero sense then. Makes zero
sense now.
