Sounds like KK really, really, wants to live in Southern California. Fuck the higher taxes. He is good friends with the Rams coach also coached with Riley in college ( Texas A & M or Texas Tech ?) so he has buddies in the area.
The recent hiring of KK brought on some groans and questions from USC fans, " Oh great, another offensive mind when what we need is defensive help". No one will argue defense is where we need the help. So did Riley make any moves there? Yes, he did. Were they sufficient and transforming moves? don't know yet. Only KK was a splash hire.
Riley brought in a couple of defensive guys this offseason to help on the defensive side of the ball. Greg Brown and Radley- Hiles.
I am not too familiar with Greg Brown but he does have a deep resume with a lot of stops at pretty successful football programs. Brown has been on 5 NFL staffs. DC in the Pac, Arizona in 2010, and Colorado 2011-2012.
DB coach at Alabama, Auburn, Purdue and Louisville.
USC Analyst staff :
Kliff Kingsbury – Senior Offensive Analyst
Greg Brown – Senior Defensive Analyst
Taylor Mays – Defensive Analyst
Bookie Radley-Hiles – Defensive Analyst
Ryan Dougherty – Senior Special Teams Analyst/Assistant Special Teams Coordinator
None of the defensive hires "wow" anyone but Riley. Lots or quality coaches out there that should have been considered over those guys but Riley knows those guys so I'm sure that played into it. If Grinch is not on the edge, hiring those guys sure shouldn't help secure his position. Overall outside of DL, Edge and LBer the remaining defensive coaches sure aren't going to help.
Taylor mays? did he bring his barcalounger for the safeties to sit in 20-25 yards off the ball? I used to Joke the dude always had the best seat in the house. I had never seen a safety line up that deep before or since.
Hope Brown has a better year this year than last. Ranked 128 out of 131 isn't easy to do. sc
