How many years did it take for Kirby Smart to realize he needed to be able to pass the ball to win championships. same coulld be say for Saban...IMHO..your take is wrong.... coaches that don't learn by their mistakes and change typically don't progress...some head coaches even fire guys when they think they made a mistake hiring the wrong guy in the first place...

my post was poorly worded. Rilley has been a coach for 7 years. He shouldn't be just learning that having a bigger stronger defense is important now.

He watched his defense get run over in the second half of 22.

He watched how Grinch had 90 and 92 sit while playing little guys why got run over. he did NOTHING until he was forced to by the AD.

Now SC hired a DC that is still learning how to be a DC. might work out. probably won't. sc

To be fair, Riley has never coached at a program that emphasized defense and he inherited one of USC's all time worst units when he got here and there actually were improvements between 2021 and 2022. But I'm glad this happened when it did and hopefully his comments in recent interviews will be implemented going forward.
