USC HC Bowl Records

I listed it after his record because because the Sun Bowl has been bad to a few USC coaches and brings horrible memories to USC fans.

The Sun Bowl is bad for everyone. Bad memories too for UCLA fans, although a couple of okay ones. UCLA beat Northwestern in the 2005 Sun Bowl, but it hardly took the sting out of previously losing big to The Fighting Pom Poms, featuring Reggie Bush. One of Mora's best teams beat the crap out of an unranked VA Tech team in 2013...big whoop, but it was still a fun beatdown to watch.

But UCLA lost to Pittsburgh in the 2022 Sun Bowl, in a game they had no business losing, but Chip was being Chip, coaching with his head up his ass. And back in the year 2000, UCLA lost a bowl game to Wisconsin for the third time in seven years when they lost the Sun Bowl. And in the 1991 Sun Bowl, the Bruins barely beat Illinois by a baseball score (6-3) in a game I almost wanted UCLA to lose, since they were playing like absolute shit.

This could actually be -- or potentitally be -- good news for USC. The transfer portal doesn't end for a couple more weeks, and some players who are (and were) in the playoffs may be waiting a bit to see what they're going to do. Same with some of the guys who were in shitass bowl games that just ended. A lot of kids are still figuring out their best destinations.

I'm hoping UCLA can scrape up a few more as well.

Heck, the NIL and lax transfer rules has turned college sports a total mess. 5* and 4* players brings a lot of uncertainty and instability. These players have no loyalty, after 1 to 2 years will test the TP market and a goner. It's hard for HC's develop team unity. These top players turn into greedy SOB's...

I think 3+* HS, Jr. College and 3* TP players are safe bets and won't cost an arm and leg. Now days HC must interview these top players mind set to determine how deep is their greed. Sad.

I have no idea why Martin left. Maybe it was NIL, but he ended up at Maryland, and they don't strike me as a program that is going to draw lots of bigtime NIL. Than again, neither does Cal, and yet they apparently have a Daddy Warbucks who is making a difference in the NIL world and upgrading Cal's roster.

UCLA is going to sign a kid from App State to be the next QB, but he only has one more year of eligibility. Apparently he's a gunslinger-type, throws a lot downfield. Lots of TD passes and yardage, but also lots of interceptions. But maybe he'll be a decent stopgap until they can develop someone else. Martin would have been the best fit, so it sucks that he left, but it is what it is. I'm just hoping that new QB coach and OC Sunseri will make the difference in developing QBs into a system that works.

JR1 was 4-1 in bowls with 2-0 Rose bowl wins, making him 3-0 in Rose Bowls. Only the great . And underrated Howard Jones who was 5-0 in Rose Bowls was better. And Howard Jones beat the greatest coaches of his era, Bernie Bierman, Jack Sutherland twice, Bob Netland and Wallace Wade. People don’t remember that USC under Howard Jones defeated Duke and Tennessee in back to back Rose Bowls. Those two teams were the last undefested, untied and unscored upon teams in college football history and Jones and USC

Beat them both, Duke 7-3 on a last minute td pass and Tennessee 14-0.
