USC names RJ Soward as new head coach for the Trojan Football Program

That's how stupid I see the Foster hire by UCLA. In fact I'm going to change their logo to YCLA because it's that stupid. That said, I cannot thank them enough. In my 50+ years of being a Trojan fan and alum, covering it at wearesc for a decade, this is the greatest blunder either school has ever made and that includes keeping Clay for as long as SC did. Thank you YCLA

Why not have hired Jerry Neuheisel - he's been hanging around as long as his dad was there. Ycla has hired 2 former players in recent history, 1 beat SC 13-9 and is forever a hero despite his record and the other got sent out the door by Pete 50-0. Gawd that must hurt forever. Then they hire Mora who like tail more than football and truly believed his sheet didn't stink only to go to UConn and discover, yes it did. They then tapped the only wealthy donor they have, to bring Chip to town. 500 ball is expensive but that's what they bought. Now they're back on the former player trail, not sure if foster ever graduated so I can't say alum and this is the best they could do? I just don't get it. Sorry.

Most (espcially UCLA) head coaching jobs in college football require a degree. Even a degree in South American Cultural Studies would suffice.

While I agree with your sentiment regarding the hiring of Foster, I wouldn't go so far to say that Foster threw his career away, especially in the same manner as RJS. Other coaches (do I have to make a list?) have drank themselves out of a job.

True. But I'm not talking about being a player. I'm talking about being a HC for a program that thru the majority of its history has been mediocre. For me, this puts a nail in their coffin, but only time will tell. We've seen coaches learn on the job. That's not a place where Ycla should be, imho

The hiring looks pretty stupid. But at this point I'm willing to wait until that stupidity is on full display. Maybe it won't be as bad as it looks, in the longer run. Stranger things have happened.

The unfortunate thing is, the team will not be good in 2024. But that was going to be the case regardless of who they hired. So when the team goes 3-9 next year, at best, a lot of people are going to blame Foster. That may or may not be fair. We'll see.

For the record, hiring Soward, even hypothetically to make a point, would be far more stupid.

soward was the dumbest comparison I could come up with. Hiring any player with Foster's level of coaching experience is a massive blunder. But maybe he'll recruit well, hire mature assistants to do his job, and in 5 years Ycla will be back where it started today.

Well, that's the point. Jar Jar fucked this up every which way. That's why I think the results of the 2024 season are going to be way too soon to judge Foster. Jar Jar just didn't set him up for success. Maybe that was the plan all along, that Foster's going to be some sort of scapegoat for their mistakes. None of this is going to end until an athletic director with competency and balls is hired. We haven't seen that at UCLA in decades.

Oh, and Chip Kelly can kiss my ass too, that fat fuck.

Its never good to underestimate anyone. By way of contrast, we all thought Chip was a home run hire. I agree that on the surface its a headscratcher. But you never know....

All he needs to do is hire a very good OC and DC and let them hire the assistants and he can have a decent program if the Administration gives him the the funding and freedom to build a decent program..the fact of the matter is he doesn't even have to recognize who those good coaches are as long as he has connections with the kind of football folks that are well respected in helping a coach find the right guys..IMHO

thats true. Also, ucla is not like usc where we threaten to fire coaches for going 18-6, 2 years after going 4-8 .

18-6 at ucla will get him a statue on campus.
