So clearly its not great in pass protection.
But there is a clear decline even in the NFL.
Not sure what it is.
But back to USC. I have seen a few times in PASS PROTECTION where a OT has looked directly at a DE in front of him and slide over to double team the DT and the DE runs in untouched and hits the QB.
So frustrating. Thats not a talent issue. Its a coaching issue.
Good one PT. Seen that happened a few times in the season too. But, that's on the player. Our OT have slow back peddling footwork. Weird, they pull and run block well, I guess going forward is not a problem for our OL.
Fact, pass protection is the hardest skill vs the two. The great C.Bill Walsh, SF 49's wanted 280-290 lbs OL that had great footwork and very strong hands. His OL were quick and held their blocks well, giving QB Montana and Young xlent pass protection...
Riley likes to let his undersized rbs taking on blocking des.given the rules restricting low blocks outside of thetackle box - stupid rule change btw - his rbs have no shot. Yet another point where Riley needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
Disagree v. Penn St - Moss had time. Pocket was there. Receivers did not get separation early in their routes, which is required with Moss.
And, what happened to the TE? Seems like that part of the game plan has disappeared.
Early on in the game, there were two backs flanking the QB, who then had time to operate with his strengths. Why they stopped doing that is beyond me.
