Yes, if Utah loses Saturday to Oregon, it provides them a much better chance at a Rose Bowl berth. Allow me to explain...
Assuming Oregon wins at Utah on Saturday and at home to OSU (likely but not necessarily a given), and Utah beats Colorado at home (pretty much a given), Utah then plays Oregon in the p12 conference championship.
If Oregon wins the championship game and goes to the playoffs, Utah as the losing team would be selected as the p12 rep for the Rose Bowl. If Utah wins the championship game, they would go as the p12 rep to the Rose Bowl game.
Either way, Utah goes to the Rose Bowl game..... So why not hedge your bet by losing to Oregon on Saturday? If they beat Oregon on Saturday, then the Rose Bowl goes to the p12 winner, not automatically to Utah as in the scenario above.
lol....ok, the Ute coaches may not think that way, and I'm not suggesting anyone "throws" the game vs Oregon....but in reality, if Utah loses on Saturday, they actually very likely win.
And remember, Utah (like Arizona) has never been to the Granddaddy of them all.
Just thinking that would be a crazy p12 championship game, where Utah has nothing to lose by losing (except being crowned p12 champs)....and a coveted Rose Bowl berth to gain no matter how the game ends up.
I'd take Chip's offensive mind and in-game coaching over Crystal Balls, for sure! No argument there.
But he's all we got, and if we keep nabbing the top recruiting class in the p12 and top 10 in the nation, I'll gladly take that trade. And hope some day we quacks stumble into a crystal ball thanks to Crystal Balls and his recruiting since it won't be for his game-day coaching. š
Crystal ball Makes a lot of head scratching decisions. Good win at the shoe but his game day decisions are good for at least one more L. CristobaLL.
Two Lās at the end.
Wait....WHAT????? At least 9-1 (10-3 worst case scenario) Oregon would have a fighter's chance in the Rose Bowl. It's the Cotton Bowl/Orange Bowl you might have a problem with us winning....lol
Oregon's already beaten tOSU out of the Big 10....and we have 3 Rose Bowl victories with 3 different head coaches just in the last decade alone. Somehow I don't think the bright lights of Pasadena nor those midwest teams are too much for my quacks. At least not recently.
I think Oregon (maybe Utah too) will be just fine in the Rose Bowl. In the playoffs vs Alabama or Georgia??....um....well THEN you might be on to something there, Waldo.
Sorry that UCLA has underperformed. Not what I was expecting, nor wanting, from your Bruins and from Chip....
But I'll take 9-1 all day long every day and Sunday for my quacks despite the piss poor p12 competition and arguably the best non-conf away win in the ncaa this season.
It's not the '70s or '80s or '90s anymore, need to live in the present, not the past. Hopefully USC, UCLA and Washington will rise again. But if you guys don't, don't wanna hear no bellyaching. Get a good coach and compete. If not, that's on you guys, not Oregon or Utah.
Have a nice day. š
LOL. HOF Post W. Seriously
My envy/anger/frustration is just as deep LOL
Neither Utah nor Nike have a chance in the Rose Bowl because they're both flawed teams, so who gives a shit?
The entire conference sucks ass. USC, UCLA and Washington used to be nationally ranked teams, every year, especially USC. Now they all suck shit. The fact that Nike is the standard bearer, and that Utah is even in the conversation, only proves how shitty the conference has become.
Big 10 and Pac ... Just go back to the traditional Rose Bowl and F this SEC/Alabama invite playoff crap
More people watch the Rose Bowl anyway
Wow!
U R correct.
I would like to think that Utah can beat Oregon at Utah and in the Pac 12 Championship game but Utah seems to have a tough time with Oregon.
