We all hear about they were good in the 70s 60s. Yes Trojans lead the series over the bruins but they got a head start. One were just starting 90 years ago and usc was a power. If it weren’t for that!!! Fill in your excuse and outcome.
I looked it up. USC leads the series 52-33. Pretty handily. The series was actually 34-27 at one point if I recall.
basically I’m the last 24-25 years. In the “new” era when usc wasn’t supposed to be any good? Trojans have won 18 of those 52 games. About 35% of their total wins all in this century.
it’s been done with i formation Teams. Pro set teams. 4-3. 3-4. Tampa 2. Hurry up. Spread teams. Fake air raid. Real air raid. Hybrid air raid. Running teams. Passing teams. And 4 heisman trophy winners just in that span.
think of who has contributed to this. Paul Hackett. Pete and Lincoln of course. Lane kiffin. Steve sarkisIan. Clay helton. Some real coaching legends there. Yet despite all of that yesterday U keeps stomping never was U and racking up those wins.
It's a very fair point, Java. But keep in mind that a lot of those wins you're talking about were also against Karl Dorrell and Rick Neuheisel. Those guys sucked worse than most of those clowns you mentioned. And the disparity in talent has always been waaaaaay in USC's favor, even when the trogans weren't that good. And at least seven of those Pom Pom teams were NFL minor league teams at a time when UCLA, under the stellar leadership of Dorrellaheisel, had a roster of Jerry's Kids who sucked cawk. I'm not saying it was unfair, but it was hardly even close to an even match-up.
EDIT: Neuheisel could certainly recruit (Mora Part I proved that), but it was too little too late.
Whatever, let’s take a look at the coaches and their record against Sc. Prothro went 3-3 and McKay hated him. Just 2 more pts and UCLA, Ah that’s another story. Rodgers 0-3.
Vermeil 1-1 Count your blessings SC he left. Donahue 10-9-1 FG hits the cross bar or there’s no tie. Toledo 4-3. Dorrell 1-4. Neuheisal 0-4. Mora 3-3. Kelly 2-3
24-33-1 in something like the last 58 years big fricking deal. Like Donahue said you don’t have to beat SC every year but just enough.
I've posted this before but it's worth repeating here.
Whatever number you use to fill in the sentence "Well, in the last ___ SC-UCLA games," SC has won more or the same number of those meetings. You can pick any random starting point you want, you won't find a period from then till now in which UCLA's record against SC is better than .500. And it's only at .500 if you start with 2021. If you start with 2020, UCLA is 1-2; 2019, it's 1-3; 2018, 2-3. Then it just gets worse.
If you start with 1991, the year UCLA won the first of 8 straight, UCLA's record from then till now is 14-18. That's as good as it gets.
Head start or nothing, SC keeps expanding the margin.
Bragging about beating UCLA during the worst stretch in UCLA history? So sad. Take out Leinart’s last 3 years and SC has done almost nothing on the national level since 1979 - 44 years. Oregon laughs at you.
fake air raid aka "gumbo"
ah, the kiffin/sark/helton era. you can smell it from here.
