An investigation by the University of Michigan alleges fired assistant football coach Matt Weiss inappropriately accessed computer accounts of others at the school, acts that drew police attention and later resulted in his dismissal, according to records obtained by The Ann Arbor News/ MLive.
A memo sent to Weiss on Jan. 20 informed him of his immediate termination, a move the university made following an in-person meeting to review a violation of its Standard Practice Guide.
In a letter from Michigan associate athletic director Doug Gnodtke, Weiss’ employment was “terminated effective immediately” and he “will not be eligible for rehire at the University of Michigan.”
“Based on the evidence it appears that you have inappropriately accessed the computer accounts of other individuals in violation of SPG 601.07,” Gnodtke wrote. “As a result, your appointment has been terminated with cause.”
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel publicly announced the firing later that afternoon in a statement.
MLive obtained documents pertaining to Weiss’ dismissal and near two-year stint at Michigan on Monday following a public-records request with the university. Code 601.07 of the school’s Standard Practice Guide pertains to information technology at the school and reads in part: “Members of the university community are expected to be good stewards of the university’s information resources and data, and use them in a safe, responsible, ethical, and legal manner.”
Ok someone help. Why? Who would he be accessing and why?
and it appears the reason this all went down so quickly is that he refused to show up for a meeting or hearing when they were going to evaluate what allegedly happened. Making him instantly guilty.
