I wonder if they even asked him. They should have waited until after the season, it would have been worth the wait. I remember reading somewhere that Fickell was waiting for either ND or Ohio State to have an opening. Well, maybe he's holding out for Ohio State. Maybe ND did ask him and he told them to go fuck themselves. Anyone know?
I would have thought ND would maybe have a clue and hire someone from outside with a fresh perspective. I get the continuity thing, but if I'm an A.D. I would be extremely wary of promoting a coordinator to H.C. It's too risky. Let the coordinator go run a lower-tier program and prove himself. I know promoting a coordinator to the top job has worked before, but I'm thinking it's failed a helluva lot more often. Maybe I'm wrong on that.
Regardless, it's clear that Fickell has done a great job at Cincinnati. I just can't imagine he wants to stay there long-term. I mean, how much Skyline Chili can you eat?
3 reasons:
Political correctness and probably player pressure to hire the defensive coordinator;
Fickell won't be available for another 5-6 weeks and that is the prime recruiting time frame; and
Why not give an opportunity to a promising minority.
There are three primary reasons 1) Freeman has shown he is already willing to be quietly complicit in the ND system 2) Freeman fits the woke posture of fear that the black players might disagree 3)ND is a marxist oriented woke place that puts priority on woke pc-ness over merit and whatever values it had left.
The University of Notre Dame Has Gone FULL Woke
The University of Notre Dame, traditionally a well-known Catholic and conservative institution of higher education, has gone full woke in recent years. Growing up Catholic, my dream was to attend the University of Notre Dame and become a part of the Fighting Irish family–but God had other plans, and my life was redirected to many other blessings! Notre Dame today, however, is not the school I loved and dreamed of as a child–it is leading the way for social justice education and Leftist indoctrination. Father Jenkins, President of the University, recently announced the school would be covering up historic murals of Christopher Columbus to be more politically correct, saying, “Let us seize this moment to make Notre Dame, even more, a force for good.” In addition to covering the murals, the school announced it would be establishing a Trustee Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, “formulating plans for recruitment and retention of diverse faculty,” and “deepening conversations about race and diversity” in the community. In 2019, they even hosted an event about “Confronting Whiteness,” during which participants focused “on confronting whiteness, power, identity, and exclusion at Notre Dame.” Last October, the school announced it would be ending coverage through its insurance plan for contraceptives and abortifacients, only to reverse course a week later and promise to cover both students and faculty. The school’s insurance provider, Meritain Health, additionally promised to continue funding contraception coverage indefinitely. That’s not all, though. Get this–for several years, the university has been considering rescindingits well-known theology and philosophy requirements for students. Catholic with a capital “C” refers to the Church, but more importantly, the Catholic Church is built on the foundation of the word catholic with a little “c,” which means “universal.” Unfortunately, universal acceptance and teaching, which should be the highest priority for any Catholic University (and especially for the nation’s most prominent one), seems to be a priority lacking at the University of Notre Dame. The path toward Critical Race Theory, secular education, and acceptance of abortion are not in line with the values of Catholic teaching. It will only serve to harm the Notre Dame community now and in the future. Notre Dame University has also mandated vaccines on campus, which will undoubtedly harm the Notre Dame community. A student who wishes to be left unnamed has experienced extreme mental abuse and pressure due to the vaccine mandates that Notre Dame. Due to the student’s previous medical conditions and having already been exposed to COVID-19 around Thanksgiving, he did not want to get the vaccine. Because of this, the student received verbal and mental abuse, including shame, segregation, and intimidation. Sadly, this student ended up in the Emergency Room at the beginning of May with his first panic attack because of the forced, mandated and frankly, experimental injection. Students like this one and countless others across the nation have been severely affected by the reaction and policies at universities and businesses. The reaction has been worse than the disease itself. It is unfortunate and concerning that students are being forced against their will to get this vaccine just to attend a university that they pay tens of thousands of dollars to attend. This is solely virtual signaling that has no foundation in science.
Per inside sources.....Fickell told USC and LSU that he would not discuss until after Cincinnati's run in the playoffs is done. It surprised me to hear from several sources that USC's 1st choice was always Lincoln Riley (due to previous discussions with Riley when he was at Coastal Carolina). Fickell was not far behind (if any) as both Bohn and Sosna both came from Cincinnati to USC.
Heard from 2 (separate) people in media that Fickell would be most interested in either:
1) Return to tOSU.....(unlikely unless entrenched Ryan Day leaves)...but best choice..
2) Penn State - This is his 2nd choice.
They didn' t want to wait until Cincinnati is eliminated from the playoffs ( if they make it). Good chance they lose their recruits if they wait and returnng players may not stick becaise they are not enamored with his schemes...on the other hand Freeman is a hellva DC and would likely leave to LSU...might create bunch of disharmony on the team who love the guy...and the recruits as well...there is a risk with each choice...ND was actually caught between a rock and a hard place..personally I like the hire and I'll bet it was a lot cheaper then going for Fickel...and no interuption in the things Notre Dame does and a guy that understands the "ND way"
Lolol Cincinnati Chili is awful
so is Jeff Ruby’s (for the price anyway) IMO
