Any of you hipsters on tik tok?

I’m not, but it went dark last night and my off spring were all making a big deal about it.

Rumors that Musk is buying tik tok pushed Tesla stock up on Friday. Also, Elon will have an office in the White House. I’m liking this more and more. Elon has a lot of juice in China,a lot of people say him buying tik tok could be a boon for Tesla.

I’m not clear how Tesla benefits but I’m all for it. Let’s goooo.

I have never had any of those things. My wife was on Facebook just to keep in contact with family and friends but when it went nuclear with political crap, she started putting those on 'Ignore' and just checks it a couple times a month now.

I don’t know why he would buy TikTok. I know he could afford to buy Twitter and back up his big mouth. But it cost him billions and from what I understand the value of Twitter has fallen about 75% since he owned it. So he doesn’t seem to be very good at running a social media platform. I don’t know why he would want to jump back into the cesspool and buy another one.

Social media is a cancer. Don’t use it. Don’t let your kids use it until they develop the critical thinking part of their cortex. I deleted all my accounts nearly a decade ago. Good move. WW is about the closest i use to socials.

I think you have a good point. I use Twitter quite a bit for news, sports and other kind of news. That’s about the extent of my social media.

Pretty much. Not sure what’s worse kids playing video games all day or on social media all day. Or both.

But it’s the main reason for the dumbing down of America.

Teachers have totally given up. If the kid wants to learn and go to college great( 25%). The rest don’t give a sheet and there is nothing you can do. And with wokeness , the rest only need to show up to get their diploma. Funny thing is , 50 % in LA Unified don’t even do that.

Even if Tik tok is shut down. Another platform will take its place.

And just wait until AI takes off. Kids will never leave their house.

but, I think social media is far worse and it has been fairly well documented that those on social media suffer from constant depression and feelings of worthlessness due to social isolation compared to gamers who at least have a sense of community

if your kids use social media strictly for entertainment, then maybe ok. But as was pointed out above, they need to have the ability to evaluate and critically think, which implies they have internalized a set of values and self worth not based on fantasy

gaming creates a type of social isolation that is more easily overcome with replacement strategies than social media
