200k a year in OC/LA or any big city is not cutting it. Not even close unless you are over 65 and come in with decades of home ownership to boost your net. Even in Middle America 200K a year won't really get you much these days, unless, again, you have already owned a home for a while. Too many things that the younger generations deem "must-haves" that cut into your purchasing power. If you add up your services (cell phone, internet, streaming, music, Amazon Prime, Grubhub, Starbucks, weed, etc.) each month, I bet you it is over 1500 bucks a month, which would have paid a mortgage on a small home not long ago.
