Bud light has been at this Tranny thing for a long time, you all remember when it was revealed that Spuds was really a female? This is in Bud Lights company DNA, you'd think they would be better at it by now.
Well, the trans girl posted on April 1. Not sure when all the uproar started. Mid April I think. That's about 6-7 weeks. Seems to me that gas station sushi has a really long shelf life.
Bud itself recognizes the lost cause and has pulled all advertising for the brand. it's disappearing before out very eyes. Mich Ultra and Modelo have gotten all the pub on sports broadcasts lately. Really? MODELO? I mean I have heard of it but when as the last time you saw that heavily pumped?
NPR opined that boycotts are often short lived. Mostly because they aren't effective. The problem here is identity and lifestyle advertising. As I wrote before, this isn't about Bud investing in South Africa or changing their formula. Bud Light is now gay beer or tranny beer. This isn't wine spritzers. This isn't yuppie water.
Bud light continues to show 25-28% sales decreases versus last year, and that's including the fact prices have gone up this year. Modelo is up about 10%, so they've seen it shift. Both brands are owned internationally by the same company, InBev but apparently distribution in the US is done by another company to avoid anti trust issues when they took over in 2013. Either way, Modelo looks like they're about to become the top brand now. that's worldwide. So I wonder if Bud Light is also experiencing backlash elsewhere.
Their sales are down 20%+ each of the last 7 weeks. Modelo now outsells it. And might overtake it for the year if this keeps up
As I said early on, this doesn't have the makings of a normal boycott. I would have thought the Nike stuff would have lasted longer. Other similar brands. I'd have t think why they didn't and this is. I just have to imagine this hits closer to home and perhaps there's is more stigma or maybe the ease of subbing the brand out.
Well it's a Mexican beer and I think under their umbrella is Corona, though I won't swear by it. So add those both together and makes sense why here in So Cal it would do well
